What are the best SaaS user onboarding examples?

I usually point people to Warp's self-completing checklist and Mercury's pre-filled registration first. Framer and Typeform are useful if you're working out how to offer help inside an editor. For a redesign, look at Figma and Slack's tours; for announcements, look at Linear's single promotion slot. The write-ups above have screenshots and video so you can see how each flow works.

What does a good SaaS customer onboarding process look like?

Start with what the user signed up to do and get them through that workflow. Collect the information you need along the way, pre-fill what you can, and let people choose whether they want help. Progress should update when they complete an action. You can see those four choices across Mercury's registration, Warp's checklist, and Framer's optional tour. Keep other workflows available during setup, too. I left Loom because I couldn't find the upload button in its onboarding interface.

What are the user onboarding best practices for SaaS products?

Make tours opt-in and keep them under five steps. A checklist should update when the user completes an action, and forms should pre-fill whatever information you already have. Let people skip them. Give announcements a shared spot in the interface so they don't overlap. When you measure activation, check whether the user got their first result in the product. Completing a tour alone won't tell you that.

What should be on a SaaS user onboarding checklist?

Three to five steps, each with a result the user can see. Depending on your product, that could mean installing or connecting something, then creating the first thing they'll use. Include sharing or inviting someone if that's part of getting started, plus one step for a feature they might miss. Loom uses download, record, share, invite. The product should be able to detect when each action is done, which is why "watch this video" is a poor checklist item. Keep the checklist available after the first session so people can finish later.
