Interactive Onboarding Checklist
Warp, the AI-powered command line, uses getting started checklists to teach its users about key features and nudge them toward account setup.
The checklists are embedded in a "Warp Essentials" section on the right side of the UI and can be dismissed and reopened by users at any time.
One of the things that Warp does well with their onboarding is that they make their checklists interactive. Warp gives its users actionable instructions for each step (e.g. use this shortcut to try this feature), and the related steps of the checklist are marked completed in real-time as the user takes the actual action.
Interactive checklists tend to be more impactful than read-only steps (e.g. watch an inline video) and more engaging than steps that require users to manually mark them completed.
Further, Warp's onboarding checklists encourage the user to explore the product on their own, too. For instance, if a user happens to complete one of the checklist steps on their own, Warp will still mark the step complete for that user even if the checklist is not currently visible in the UI.
